Hugo Read

Hugo Read is the great-grandson of Oswald White who spent 43 years in the Japan Consular Service (1903-1942). White’s ‘Japan memoir’ entitled All Ambition Spent, was subsequently discovered by his grandson and will be published by Renaissance Books in 2017. Hugo Read is also the author of a portrait of Oswald White published in Britain & Japan: Biographical Portraits, Vol. X (Renaissance Books, 2016). Professionally, Hugo Read is a wine consultant and honorary secretary of the Association of Wine Educators. He writes for various publications on food, drink and travel, and lives with his wife and two children in London.
