Platon Alexeyevich Oyunsky

He was also a celebrated, politician and as one of the founders of the Yakut Autonomous Republic, established in April 1922, was closely involved in drafting the Republic’s first constitution. Born in Boturuss (modern Ust’ Tatta), Yakutia, to a Shaman family, Oyunsky subsequently became a victim of the Stalinist repression of the 1930s and died in prison in 1939. He was rehabilitated in October 1955. The State Prize of the Yakut ASSR, awarded for achievements in literature, arts and architecture, was named after him, as was the capital’s Sakha drama theatre, a literary museum and one of the streets in Yakutsk.
