Robert S.G. Fletcher

Robert Fletcher researches the history of empires and their place in the making of our connected world. Before completing his doctorate at the University of Oxford he lived and worked in Tokushima Prefecture, where he first came across the Richardson story. He has written widely on the history of British imperialism, including for Past and Present and The English Historical Review ; his first book, British Imperialism and ‘The Tribal Question’ , was published by Oxford University Press in 2015. He held positions at the universities of Oxford and Exeter before becoming Associate Professor of Britain and Empire at the University of Warwick. He returns to Tokushima as often as he can.
