Renaissance Books is pleased to announce that it was the recipient of the 53rd Annual Translation Publishing Award from the Japan Society of Translators (JST) for Kiyonori K ANASAKA’S Isabella Bird and Japan: A Reassessment – selected as the ‘outstanding translated work’ published in 2017.   Translated by Nicholas Pertwee, whose work and career has been closely associated with Japan since his period of service at the British Embassy in the 1970s, the book provides a new critical study on the life and times of Isabella Bird with particular reference to her 1878 visit to Japan and her acclaimed work Unbeaten Tracks in Japan published in 1880 by John Murray. The award ceremony took place on 20 October 2017 at the famous Gakushi kaikan, Tokyo – Mark Gresham, CEO of MHM Ltd., Renaissance Books distributors in Japan, kindly accepted the award on behalf of the Company [See photo].
